I have the best job in the world. No, really it is. I'm not saying it's easy. It's also very frustrating. But it is also tremendously rewarding.
Last week we started practices for middle school jazz band. This group is made up of mostly 7th and 8th graders (with a few 6th graders sprinkled in) and meets before school from 7:15 to 7:45am. There were 14 students here last week and I know there will be more this week. These are kids that give up sleeping in to make music! Not to play video games, or to watch the newest show, or to pick on their little sister but to come to school before any of their peers and make music. How cool is that?
This is also the season of the District 5 honor bands. I had more interest than ever in students wanting to be nominated. We found out yesterday that Brad Galloway and TJ Graham will be representing Struthers from the high school. I have not yet received word on who our middle school representatives will be but when I do I will let you know.
We hear all the time how today's youth is letting us down. We hear about their disrespect and laziness. Well, when you hear that just know that isn't the case. Because I get to work with wonderful, respectful, hardworking, fun, talented kids every day...and that is what makes my job the best in the world.
I am very excited to work with and see your kids grow over the next years!
