We're back! This week kicked off the 2014 edition of the Struthers Wildcat Marching Band! The beginning of something is always an exciting time. Whether it be a new job, a new school year, or a new friendship the first few days, weeks, and months are filled with excitement and promise.
I am especially excited about this year's marching band as we have so many students from the lower grades. This means we are building a strong foundation for many years to come. Building a heritage if you will of hard work, musical excellence, friendship, and lessons that will last for years to come...perhaps even a lifetime. I am sure many of you have cherished memories from your high school years. Perhaps from band but also perhaps from another activity that has helped shape the person you are today.
Today I talked with the band about making small steps toward excellence. A phrase I anticipate I will be repeating often this year is this: We overestimate what we can accomplish in a day and underestimate what we can accomplish in a week or month. We will be getting a little bit better every day this season and when we look back in November I think we will be astonished at what this group of kids accomplished.
Here is to new beginnings!!
